Every naksatra is divided into 4 Padas. We have totally 108 Pada. There are 12 Rasis and each rasi has 9 padas. So 12*9=108 Padas. Each Pada is measured 3 deg 20 seconds. The Japa mala also has 108 beads which are considered as the rosary of the god. Hence our elderly people advise us to recite mantras using the Japa Mala as the mantra would cover all the 108 padas for the 27Naksatras..
We know that the starting of the Naksatra is Asvini. Moon visits all the 27 chambers of his queens and he spends most of the time with Krittika and speed up when he visit Anuradha.
